Apex Legends outlines balance changes as well as the philosophy of balance

Our balance philosophy is actually balancing things.

Balance is a tricky beast in a game like Apex Legends, and that’s the core of the philosophy behind Respawn’s overall approach to changes. The goal is to give the game fewer and larger balance changes in order to make sure that the changes don’t rewrite the game constantly; you shouldn’t need to constantly scour patch notes to understand how weapons you had practiced with work now. Similarly, a lot depends on the evolving meta and seeing whether things are actually unbalanced or if layers are just still in the process of learning the game.

With that in mind, the game’s Season 1 update is bringing with it some balance changes, such as making the Wingman and Peacekeeper weaker, improving energy weapon availability and ammo supplies, and hitbox size reductions for Pathfinder, Caustic, and Gibraltar. There’s a lot of good individual discussions about abilities that aren’t being rebalanced, though, so the whole read is worthwhile if you’re a fan of the game with even a passing interest in balance.
