LOTRO’s progression server unlocks Moria this Thursday

A week after Lord of the Rings Online spent several consecutive days in the dark, the Tolkien MMORPG is preparing to send players into a different shadowy gloom.

Standing Stone Games announced today that it will be pushing out Update 23.4 on Thursday, March 14th — and with it, the progression server unlock for Mines of Moria. The Anor and Ithil servers will increase the level cap to 60 as a result and free up other Moria-related content, such as legendary items and skirmishes.

In conjunction with the progression server unlock, the studio is selling a “Reclaim Moria Bundle” on all shards that grant a special goat steed, a pet goat, a Gandalf emote, a couple of housing items, and — we kid you not — 350 Dwarf candles. Presumably a spouse of one of the developers operated a failing candle business and had to offload inventory somewhere. This means that Moria is going to end up smelling a lot like sandalwood and jasmine in the near future.
