Shroud of the Avatar offers players a free house for logging in by the end of May

It's a three-bedroom house, it's got a pool in the back.

Have you logged into Shroud of the Avatar this month? Because doing so gets you a free house! Specifically, a free wood-and-plaster row home, three stories tall. That’s an upgrade from what players normally get for free, and it can be yours just by logging in and checking your reward tab before the end of May. Players can also pick up a miniature greyhound pet as an additional login reward, so if you’ve long wanted a three-story house with a dog barking around, you can actually get that in the game.

There’s also a few more bits of interest in the latest development update if you’d like to drop some money, chiefly focused around the latest crown store additions and changes along with the massive supporter bundle for Episode 2. You can put some of the things being sold in the crown store inside of that free house, if you want to.

Shows how bad the game is when they give you a bugged home for free.

The free house is just so you go to the COTO store to buy deco items. The pet they give you can’t even be placed in the house.

But it’s awesome as a follow you around pet. One that has been in game for ages, and many of us have wanted to have.

Plus, there’s a good chance you can place it once the login reward time has expired. I’d bet they are just trying to avoid people creating a million dead accounts to get Mojitos.

“there’s a good chance” or do you know for FACT?
I really believed you when you said that the devs working from home was going to lead to an improved game and everything was going to be much better… Now I’m suck with Unity crashes, daily patches that break things, and major delays caused by vacations or some other BS. They won’t even fix the POT map I live in. A whole guild who spent money in the game is now screwed because it’s a low priority.

So much for more work getting done when they lost their studio space.

Chance != fact.

They are literally updating daily at this point. You can watch Christ working at this very moment on Twitch.

Yeah, they should fix your town map.

Here’s a list of fixes, updates and changes since the last release.

With 6 years in they need to be adding more content. How come they continue to have bugs to fix? Because rather then QA their fixes they just throw it out there without testing to see what else it broke.

Let me ask you since you know all the FACTS…have they started working on EP2? Is it still scheduled for end of year release?

Reader
Victor Didra

Your caps indicate you are quite frustrated. I never said I know the facts.

One thing I do know is that there are five more taming skills that are planned for next release.

I also know that bug fixes and adding content will continue as long as the game stays in development. If it’s not to your liking I can’t help you there.

“Chance != fact” Oh I thought you knew it was a fact. My bad!

That’s great! There is such a big need for taming. Just like they improved fishing right? Considering it doesn’t matter what you put on your line since it’s all just RNG. Great fix!! Can’t wait!

It would be nice if the SotA team would focus less on cosmetic stuff and more on persistent issues like broken maps.

Too late, DarkStarr already worked his forum magic and closed the topic…surprised he didnt delete it too.

If you cant talk about it then there’s no problem! Part Time Executive Producing 101

Do the new houses include tax-free lots? If not, noobs won’t be able be afford living in their new house for some time.

Reader
PanagiotisLial1

Wrong. Talking to Oracle gives you 500 gold daily and the tax of row lot house is 250 daily. I am not sure how it was in the past but I heard it was higher

Reader
Victor Didra

Not only that but loot is pretty well flowing now. Even if one didn’t have the free Oracle gold, making 250g takes no time even in noob zones.

What’s your take on the broken maps?

Reader
Victor Didra

They aren’t all broken, not by a long shot.

The major cities all work last I saw. The most confusing cities, Ardoris and Aerie, work, so new players should be ok.

For town owners who have a rotated map (it is there, but rotated the wrong way compared to the housing layer) it is probably incredibly frustrating. This is where most of the complaints are coming from, and I don’t blame those players, they need working maps for their towns. However that doesn’t affect most players.

There are some adventure scenes that still don’t have a map. Personally that doesn’t bother me, the reason I campaigned for an in game map early on was for Ardoris. I don’t usually play adventure scenes with a map unless I’m looking for a specific thing.

But if someone absolutely has to have a map to be able to adventure, that will be frustrating. There are plenty of scenes though.

So in my opinion the biggest complaint right now is from justifiably frustrated town owners. Most town owners have working maps, but a few don’t, and the devs really should take the time to fix those outlying cases.

So you are saying the real problem is had by a few POT owners, and not that new players will see a lot (it is more than a handful) of adventure scenes and NPC towns with “no map loaded” when they pull up the “inigame map system!” touted in recent come back to the game emails?

Do you think your view on this, as a POT owner, might, just might, be out of touch with the reality of most players? Genuinely curious.

Reader
Victor Didra

You guys scream about it on reddit a lot more than I see in game or in the forums.

The big thread you’re pointing at?

Started by a POT owner because her map is and has been screwed up for ages. She, and a few other POT owners that I know of are justifiably miffed (to put it lightly) that their town still doesn’t work.

Yes, there are some adventure scenes that still don’t exist. It’s not the house fire you want it to be though.

“Yes, there are some adventure scenes that still don’t exist.”
Well there you go! It’s sad that a game that’s been out SIX+ years still doesn’t have a functioning map system and to the devs it’s a low priority. Just goes to show that deco items rule and quests and maps aren’t worth the time.

Reader
Victor Didra

Well, some people are always going to complain, and with Shroud it appears those people will blow things out of proportion and spam the media with anything they can. Yeah, that just happened.

So complain all you want. Meanwhile more people are joining and somehow able to deal with not having their hand held by a map in every scene.

Reader
Thomas Hill

Ummm the people who are joining are the same people who joined previously and left for one reason or another and probably will leave again. Port’s Advertising = send emails to people who have played and left.

Boy what a winning strategy!

i backed, and even though it is far more complete and engaging than SC, its boringAF. The housing thing always seemed like a speculators market to me, no thanks.
