Blizzard has announced that the next World of Warcraft Classic stress test will be happening this week on Wednesday, June 19th, lasting until Friday, June 21st, and this one’s going to be the biggest yet both in terms of available content and eligible participants. This time around, all players with active accounts in the Americas and Oceania region will be able to join in on the fun. For those who haven’t taken part in one of the previous WoW Classic stress tests, the game client will be available to download and install late tomorrow, June 18th.

All character races and classes will be available for this test, with the maximum level capped at 15. On top of the usual open-world content, there will be an array of instanced content for players to jump into as well, including Ragefire Chasm, Wailing Caverns, and Deadmines (which might be a bit of a challenge at level 15, but hey), plus Warsong Gulch for those looking to scratch that PvP itch. The devs ask that players do their best to “focus as much play as possible during the first three hours of the stress test” in order to allow the team to pinpoint any issues with high server loads.

Is it just the one server or are there multiple?

So, I mean, this is fair. If anyone wanted a beta taste and hasn’t had it yet, I reckon $15 for guaranteed weekend access is not too steep a price to pay. Plus, if they run another of these mid-July, then with the early access after that, *poof*, instant “strong growth in MAU year-over-year thanks to . . . mumble mumble . . . 15 year old game . . . hurr durr.”

I did resub to get in for the last stress test. I do not yet have access to beta testing. I thought that I wanted to play Classic. Turns out that I wanted to play it more than even I thought.

It was like coming home.

You’ll sit in the corner until you learn to stop wrecking your own continent.

At some point I hope they host a couple of free stress tests (If that’s not already possible). I’m not going to re-sub just to help them test their servers, but I know I’ll be playing at launch, and I’ve more than half a dozen behind me who’ll be doing the same.

I wouldn’t bet everything on WoW classic being a long-term success, but I expect the launch numbers to be overwhelming.

I think your assessment is accurate. I got some friends that are more hyped than they should be. I still have my original vanilla character, my now 110 troll priestess, so I have little incentive to get invested doing some of this stuff again, even if I feel retail has fallen short in many ways.

I was briefly tempted by this, but then I decided not to resub. It’s not the cost, it’s just that I don’t see any point in playing before the official launch. I want everything to feel as fresh as possible on release day.

Wait for the final release and amuse yourself with some SWG EMU until then?

I probably will anyway, i only want to get a feel for it, normally i never do any beta, specially anything that gets wiped.

Leveling in retail is too fast but feels right when the goal posts are 120 away, problem is you zip through the “classic areas” no time to enjoy the content. This is where Classic will work as the slower rate allows one to fully experience the zones again proper.

Basically i’m subbed so wtf why not, and instead of staying hyped for a couple more months for me it’s, i might not like it. Probably will but, dunno retail is pretty good starting from scratch surprisingly i’m rather enjoying modern wow.

So why not find out now instead of a few months from now.
