The Daily Grind: What are you going to roll in WoW Classic?

I swear that we are all of us caught in a time loop right now. It’s not 2019, it’s really just 2004, when City of Heroes was just a few months old and we were enduring the last summer before World of Warcraft released. The wheel, she keeps on turnin’.

Anyway, it’s downright fascinating — in a we’ve-been-here-before kind of way — to follow the conversation in the WoW Classic community as to what races and classes each person is planning to roll. Nevermind that this MMO has been out for a decade and a half, everyone’s treating this question as if it’s never been asked before. And darn it if I’m not right there alongside of them. Gnome Warlock? Tauren Shammy? I can’t decide. I’ll probably have to roll both.

So when WoW Classic arrives at the end of August, what character are you going to create, assuming that you are on board for this grandiose experiment? Remember, Death Knights and Demon Hunters need not apply.

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

Hmm. Since it will mean I have to sub, unless I missed something, none. I have other games to choose from which don’t require a sub.

Ret paladin. And I’m going to quest solo exclusively.

Prolly Mage or hunter as main then priest heal and warrior tank as alts, though as to what faction still undecided.

Most likely a few.
But I might just be boring and be a Human Paladin haha.

No version of WoW can convince me to return. I vowed to never play it again and I will stick to it. That said, if I was one of the folks returning it would likely be a Warrior.

Was half expecting a poll

Anyway, Ill be going warrior, because my son is going mage, and my wife is going priest… and the 2 huge downsides to warrior are needing heals and downtime, both things that those other 2 classes will eliminate.

Tauren Druid! I wonder if my old, old name “Auric” is available again…

One thing just occurred to me that will affect the characters I create. How will name reserving be handled? Are the players in the beta and currently testing vanilla get priority to reserve names? Or will it be whoever logs in first on launch day gets a name?
My first roll will be a hunter to enjoy all the old school mechanics, and next will be a warlock. Then druid. And then paladin, warrior, priest and rogue.

I had the plan to level a Hunter on my vanilla WoW pserver, for a long while now and never got around to it. So this would be an opportunity. But as a first class on a new server I’d rather level something more flexible that can tank or heal. Maybe a Droid, ehh Druid (sorry, played a lot of SWTOR lately) or Paladin. Or Warrior?

To be clear, I don’t want to do this. Family compels me. Hopefully they’ll burn out from the suck by level 40 and I can pull them away from this hopeless endeavor.

Healing is the worst. I was sick of it by the end of my time in EQ and I spent years hating it in WoW, but in the end I’d rather bitch about healing than bitch about the healer, so… it depends on which faction the family picks.

Dwarf holy priest if Alliance. Troll resto shaman if Horde. Pure min-maxing drives the choice.

I hope we play Horde. Resto shaman is brainless, but not quite holy paladin-level brainless. I hate healing. I hate trolls. I hate Blizzard.

Okay. I’m pumped. Let’s do this.

Dude, just get out. Don’t force yourself to play if it doesn’t make you good.
