Star Citizen talks PTU flow for alpha 3.6.0, plus snub fighters and trains

Cloud Imperium is back with another Inside Star Citizen video this week, this one focused on the PTU – the public test universe. As Star Citizen players know, elite testers began taking their first steps into the 3.6.0 alpha build last week, making this particular video a timely one for everyone else curious about how the PTU works (and where you fit into it).

“We have several waves,” CIG’s Michael Smith explains. “The first wave is the Evocati wave, and these are usually our most dedicated testers; they spend the most time playing the game, the spend the most time on the issue council, they’re very devoted with the game and the systems. And we throw them basically our rawest product.”

Then, CIG takes player feedback and acts accordingly, pushing the build to Wave 1 (Concierge subbers) and Wave 2 to test the load, and then, ultimately, to everyone.

This episode also features segments on the new 3.6.0 weapons, VFX, lighting, sub fighters, and transit tech improvements (yes, trains – it’s kinda like Mini Metro in your MMO).

another vapid episode of nothing but marketing. but what brilliant marketing it is. wallets just fly open and nobody cares if the game has any substance to it at all. Chris only has to do just enough to keep the faithful worshipping at the altar. Best scam ever.

So you can be a trainspotter in Star Citizen then ? :P

I guess you might not have such people in the USA but in the UK trainspotting was the bastion of the most nerdy of teens . You could go to any station back in the 70’s and see a bunch of pimply faced anorak wearing lads with waiting to spot a rare train engine . Its what they did before video games were invented .

transit improvements they’;ve outlined sound good, but i still feel locations like arc corp would benefit greatly from grim hex etc analogue in their system or at least obrital platform a la port olisar above the cities.

i havent been playing as much due to business and simply waiting for 36 ptu to roll out, but when i have i’ve been exploring some of the stuff i haven’t explored so much before, and in particular this week i wanted to see what was up with smuggling using criminal waste disposal contracts to locate drug labs (rather than follow a guide).

i made an attempt at this early this week and died to broken leg server descync issues. which would’ve made for a great vid but i was streaming oww earlier and didn’t change back and have grown used to only streaming/recording sc. but the next attempt at it (which i’ve been wanting to get a little bit more fixed guns pvp dogfighting action but… i wanted to get something like this on vid more so..) i definitely did get on camera and went very nicely, if somewhat intensely in a passive way – i had some indication of aplayer bounty active in the server and apparentlly drug smuggling can proc generation of such bounties, so i felt the target on my back as i searched for a place to sell my illicit goods…

i’ve also found that getting a coffee cup on the dash board can only be done before you quantrum travel. qting just once makes it impossible to do. and no luck with the water bottles.
