Star Trek Online discusses the making of its big anniversary episode, Measure of Morality

The big anniversary event of Star Trek Online was a real crowd-pleaser, with Abraham Lincoln helping you revisit iconic missions from the game and culminating in a space battle with the most iconic characters of the franchise. If you’re curious about how all of that came to be, you can find out in a new half-hour video in which the staff behind STO discuss the process of conceptualizing and realizing the game’s 10-year anniversary event.

One of the big stated goals was, of course, to take what could easily be seen as a very silly premise (since, again, you were working with Abraham Lincoln to argue for morality against a lava monster) and make it as awesome as possible, culminating in a space fight in which it felt like the captain of each series was there alongside you. And that also included some unusual escalation, like bringing in a Borg-assimilated Iconian – which would be far too ridiculous for an ongoing threat, but was also a really fun combination of threats for a single episode. Check out the whole video below for more behind-the-scenes details.

So many great new Star Trek TV series and all we have to play is a game with 8 years old visuals…
(although gameplay is great)

They are two very good and enjoyable episodes but whoever was in charge of balancing the fights wants nut punching for being a muppet :) Because until they dialled it back some of those fight were RI-DIC-U-LOUS! lol

Yeah, there was something seriously wrong with the spawn rates. particularly with the Borg drones and spheres.

I tried it the first day or two. You’d enter an area, twenty Borg would beam in. And then after what felt like about five seconds later, *another* twenty Borg would beam in.

I did it right after release and must have died 20 times on that stupid @#$(*& mission… didn’t realize they toned it down later, guess my terse feedback did some good, lol…

It depends on the gear. Fully equipped with some nice kit modules MK15 all legendary and I died maybe once because I got a bit careless. Anything less and you would have a hard time.

Yeah, pretty much exactly NOT what to tune an anniversary mission for, when expecting returning and casual players to actually have a good time…

Yeah, I streamed it on day one (which is always perilous) but it was dang brutal.

It was just scaled to super endgame stuff, not casual story players.
