Neverwinter brews up a sweeping rework of its combat system

Considering how integral combat is to Neverwinter, you’d have to imagine that any changes that touch upon this system are going to be felt far and wide by the game’s playerbase. Now factor in the phrase “combat rework,” and you might start to understand how significant such an event might be.

Cryptic’s got a large slate of combat changes in the works for Neverwinter — and these are no small potatoes. The studio said that its goals for this rework are to implement seamless and smooth scaling, make combat ratings easier to understand, improve the accuracy of item levels, make it easier for players to gear up, and offer options for both creative builds and min/maxers.

“We also wanted to leave players plenty of avenues to customize their characters as well as fine tune their stats to optimize their builds,” the studio said. “We needed to be careful with our changes to gearing up to not remove this element of the game from our most dedicated players.”
