EVE Online now makes quantum cores in structures mandatory with latest patch

Big ego.

Got a structure in EVE Online? Then you better make sure it has a quantum core installed in it, otherwise it’s going to lose a number of useful functions as of the latest patch. Structures that do not have a quantum core will lose tethering support to nearby ships, ship fitting features, and ship or module repair functions.

For those who are unfamiliar with just why this is happening, CCP Games explained this past September that this new item requirement was meant to make losing a structure more impactful as well as to deter players from simply building dummy structures as bait. So while that might have been a clever tactic before, as of this new update, it’s now verboten.
