World of Warcraft makes the Ignore function account-wide in patch 9.1.5

Skull go BLORF

So let’s say you ignore someone on World of Warcraft with the poetic name of Clownfart. This is probably a sensible reaction just to the name chosen for the character, but Clownfart was actually being an annoying troll so you doubly didn’t want to hear from him. Undaunted, Clownfart logged over to his alt, Clownorgan, and began doing the same things that made you ignore him the first time. As you add another name to your ignore list, you turn to the camera like you’re on an infomercial and exclaim, “There’s got to be a better way!” And there is in patch 9.1.5, when the ignore function will be account-wide.

The functional upshot is that ignoring Clownfart will ignore the player rather than just the character, meaning that the results will be the same for Clownfart, Clownorgan, Clowntrash, and any number of other clown-based names. You will no longer see chat from the player, be matched with said player in the group finder, or otherwise interact with the clown army in any fashion. Well, unless your buddy Trab wants to show off his main character, Clownfart.

On one hand it is good but I feel this should be optional.

I am a WoW Roleplayer. And some people have characters that are very ignore worthy, but the same player may have other characters that are characters mine interacts with or even considers friends, and I wouldn’t even necessarily know that the cringey character was written by the same player unless I accidentally blocked them all.

Wasn´t that requested ages ago from the playerbase? Finally, very useful.

This is good to also stop the gold farmer spam and so badboy and other addons will benefit from this, as i read it it means you can ignore the entire account of a person but will the ignore also carry over to your own alts or would people need to ignore them again on their alt character?

These changes are also sadly coming fairly late they recently also addressed the boost spam in LFR and now this, they sadly should have focused on this the moment it started to become a plague.

Was this always planned to be added around this time or is this due to the recent developments? Guess we will never really know.

All games need this. Glad WoW finally has it, it has to make chat easier and might even threaten some trolls.

The tools of detoxification have always been there, both in game and in their studio. It’s too bad they decided to not to act on them until they where in trouble. /bleh

What other games do this? Is it a standard feature I just missed all these years?

It’s almost like Blizzard’s decided to grant all of the low-hanging fruit of requests that people have had for the last 15 years. Requests that they could have granted years ago but, in their arrogance, didn’t want to bother with.

Now I’m starting to wonder just how much of their player-base they’ve lost.
