Much of the noise made about the Legacy of the Sith expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic has been focused around combat styles, which makes sense since the system represents something of a shift in the way the game plays and how players can customize their character. There’s a new layer being added to that customization with the introduction of legendary items, a new set of earpieces and implants that look to deepen playstyle options.
These new items will effectively pull set bonuses from gear sets into one item, providing the ability for players to have more control over what gear they get bonuses with and granting the devs the ability to provide more bonuses, including some fan favorites. A total of two legendary items can be worn at a time, and with implants providing utility-focused bonuses and earpieces improving combat style power and effectiveness. Legendary items start at a lower item level but can be upgraded directly, while getting said items is noted as something that “won’t be inherently difficult.”
As for gear with set bonuses that’s in the game now, those bonuses will be eventually phased out, with current set bonuses being deactivated upon reaching level 76 while stat bonuses from those items will still remain. The devs note this as a benefit, as it frees players from chasing a certain set for one affix and allows them the option to mix and match their gear.
More itemization changes are incoming for the expansion and will be detailed soon, but for now players can at least know about two of these item changes.
