WRUP: Thank you edition

Sorry, everyone, but today I’m not in the mood for doing my usual What Are You Playing… but only because I want to offer a very genuine thanks to the people who read this weekly feature, because it’s one of my favorite things to do every week. It may or may not come through in my other writing, but I genuinely adore the chance once per week to do something just unhinged and random and completely off the rails.

Some of you really love these ridiculous jokes that arrive with no explanation, resolution, or larger meaning. Some of you probably don’t care and focus on the comments. But no matter where you fall on that spectrum, it is one of my favorite things to do this week. I always feel bad when I feel a given WRUP installment isn’t as bizarre or weird as it could be, but sometimes the ones that seem the most predictable to me are ones that other people love. And I love doing this for you, and I love sharing it with all of you every week.

Thank you, everyone. Tune in next week for something normally unhinged. For today? Just have a nice day.

Bonus contribution: Send some positive wishes to our readers!

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Pokemon Go’s happening so I can hopefully keep these holiday pounds off. I think Jackbox games will happen with the family on Santaday, and I’ll probably pop into Animal Crossing quick as well.

I know we still got COVID, but let’s end 2021 by getting psyched. You deserve some happiness, no matter what holiday you celebrate (if any)! Have a great day, eat some good food, and find someone to game with for a bit! You’re gonna have a great weekend!

Ben Griggs (@braxwolf): We’ll be traveling this weekend so no games for me! But I do want to send best holiday wishes to all MOP’ers: staff and readers!

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): We’re staying home for the holiday, hiding out really with our kids, so actually I expect that after we’re done devouring presents and food, I probably will get some MMO time. I’ve been in Albion Online mostly lately, but I’ll dip into Star Wars Galaxies Legends too. And maybe City of Heroes; for some reason, it’s been calling to me.

Here’s to hoping everyone is healthy and happy for the season, whatever it is you celebrate. Drink some extra eggnog for me.

Carlo Lacsina (@UltraMudkipEX, YouTube, Twitch): There will probably be no gaming for me this Christmas! That’s not a bad thing since it’s my daughter’s first and I want to be there for every minute of it!

I want to give a shoutout to all our regular readers and commenters, y’all are entertaining to read and also reminds me that Massively OP has a built in PvP mode.

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): When I’m not going to be doing my usual second job work and squeezing in a bit of Christmas cheer in, I will press on with Final Fantasy XIV’s MSQ and maybe see about firing up something from my backlog. It’s like presents I bought myself ages ago!

I would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday, but if this time of year is particularly hard – for whatever reason – I hope that you can move through the sadness and see yourself into another year. Because there are at least a few people who would love to see you in 2022. I’m certain of it.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): There’s celebrating, but there’s also FFXIV and maybe some games for the holiday? I don’t know about that one, I guess I’ll find out!

My hope for everyone is that whatever you celebrate and whoever it’s with, you have at least one person who surprises you with a show of caring, because that’s kind of the best. Maybe it’s someone you know cares about you who found the perfect gift, maybe it’s a friend who just reaches out with good wishes; however it happens, I hope you have a moment to warm your heart.

Every Saturday, join the Massively OP community and staff for What Are You Playing, our roundup of what MMORPGs and other games we’re hoping to play this weekend (with a bonus question or two for our amusement). Tell us what you’re up to! Go off-topic! And don’t forget to have fun!
