WRUP: Art errors in Massively Overpowered Issue #213 edition

Our Hero
  • During the main scene outside Oldman’s Pub, Bree’s hands are incorrectly colored like her jacket.
  • Eliot is drawn with the older Apex Sword design in many panels until around the halfway point, despite the design having changed with its reforging in #200. This could be a case of outdated reference materials, but the Apex Sword is drawn with its correct appearance for the first several pages and for the concluding sequence!
  • Justin’s jetpack has apparently been redesigned to somehow look even dumber than it did when it was first introduced way back in #156.
  • When Chris, Bree, and Mia take over the Game-Smasher, its control panel changes color from cyan to a darker blue for two pages, then goes back to cyan for the rest.
  • Oldman’s Pub has an emergency exit in a totally different location from when it was last seen in #178.
  • None of the Blizzard Drones have the right coloration; their back fins are all white with blue highlights instead of the inverse, and their optics are shaped like rhombuses rather than ovals.
  • Page 21 is just covered in cats without any explanation.
  • What Are You Playing text overflows its page gutters on the right side.
  • Despite Andrew being present for every crowd shot, he never appears in closer shots.
  • Bree’s sunglasses lack their usual rims.

Bonus question: What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Pokemon Go’s getting attention, Ring Fit Adventure will help round-out my game-based exercise stuff, and I may do some inventory clearance in Orna between bowling/chambara matches in Nintendo Switch Sports.

I’ve been pretty fortunate with my jobs (not including family work), but I hated my travel “marketing” job which, surprise surprise, was more about sales because the company had to trick people into the gig. The regular folks were fine enough, but the big companies or few rich people who approached us wanted everything but pay for nothing. And the drama, my god! Don’t ask your travel agent to lie to your husband about your bills, yeesh.

Ben Griggs (@braxwolf): I’ll continue to make progress on the World of Warships Atlantico dockyard event. If I have any time left over I’ll wander around Night City in Cyberpunk 2077.

When I was in college, I did an eight month co-op assignment on the East Coast, about 850 miles from home. Three weeks into the job, the company that had hired me laid off 20% of staff, including the HR person in charge of the coop program. Not only did I have to continue the assignment without direction for seven months, but company wide morale remained steadily low throughout. I think people questioned why the company was hiring interns while those who had depended on full-time employment were being shown the door.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I dunno. I haven’t been feeling motivated this week to play anything. Busy in real life and the time I have to play hasn’t seemed like enough to get involved in anything, so I just… haven’t. Maybe I’ll take the opportunity and play something different entirely.

Is this a trick question? Obviously it’s this job! Okay, I kid. Worst was third shift at a 24-hour restaurant when the bowling alleys and bars would close and all the drunks would pile in. In retrospect, I can’t believe my mom let me do that as a summer job.

Carlo Lacsina (@UltraMudkipEX, YouTube, Twitch): I’m going to be grinding out for the infinite potion in Black Desert Online this weekend! I also bought $50 worth of cards for Hearthstone to build a naga mage deck and I’ll be playing that on the side.

I wouldn’t really say I had any bad jobs to be honest, but I remember how I gained a ton of weight from progression raiding in Final Fantasy XIV. I saw a picture of me while I was playing, and I must’ve gained like 20 pounds. On top of that, playing FFXIV felt like a job and it was taking away from other things in my life. Today, I have a better work life balance, but I’ll never forget how bad it got for me.

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): After watching the Nintendo Indie World showcase, I picked up Soundfall on a whim and it was a very good decision, so that will probably be a primary focus this weekend. Otherwise I have some levels to earn in Final Fantasy XIV and probably a bit of X4 or Project Wingman to slake my hunger for flight stuff.

My current second job as a casino reservations agent is easily the worst job, without peer. Even putting aside the fact that I need to pull two incomes to keep things humming, I have reached a tipping point with my patience for this line of work, the people I work alongside, the people I work under, and especially the people I service.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Well, it’s been an absolutely execrable week filled with destruction for me, so I am kind of winded. But I’m also keeping going, so aside from some FFXIV I’m going hard on streaming; you can catch me over on Twitch as I get things together, get my overlays and everything sorted, and we start putting things together on a regular schedule. Also, me saying “fart island” a bunch.

Oddly, my worst job probably wasn’t working at McDonald’s in high school. It was working on the franchise management side of Domino’s in a tiny office with a micromanaging boss who loathed me and never stopped trying to get me over a barrel no matter how hard I worked. It was an awful job that felt like a prison sentence and I don’t miss it, even though I had a couple of wonderful coworkers who improved my life immensely. Also, it was the job I was working when my now-wife and I got together.

Mia DeSanzo (@neschria): I am going to try out some games I bought a few years ago but have never played over the weekend. I have many to choose from, so I am not sure where I am going with that yet. They are mostly RPGs and strategy games.

The worst job I have ever had was senior caregiving. Don’t get me wrong, the people I took care of were lovely for the most part. The franchise I worked for was awful. The final straw was when I got scheduled (again) for back-to-back clients outside of my availability and scope of work. When I quit, I gave myself two days to cool off before I went into the local office to officially quit because I didn’t want to end up yelling at the local office manager who had nothing to do with the problems at this particular company. I yelled and apologized and yelled some more. The office manager was awesome about all of it though. Just the best – empathetic, professional, and patient.

Sam Kash (@thesamkash): Another full weekend won’t offer me a lot of gaming time. I’m celebrating a late mother’s day this weekend so I’ll be busy with family in general. What time I do have will likely go into my slow New World leveling. I think I’m up to 37 now. It’s so annoying.

Bonus: My worst job was likely a small company involved in financing/repossession of foreclosed homes. I just had a desk job but it was pretty mind numbing stuff.
