Not every MMO has the same sized dev team. Some are massive, spreading across multiple departments. Some are modest but flexible. Some games have no devs at all, existing in maintenance mode.

And then there are the micro-teams: squads of a dozen or fewer designers, engineers, and community managers who nevertheless wrangle full-fledged MMOs and keep them moving forward. Seeing what, for example, the Project Gorgon team’s managed to build with just a couple of people or what Little Orbit’s handled with the few devs it has is truly inspiring.

Today, I’d like us to give a jaunty salute to the micro-teams out there that are handling our MMOs. Which very, very small teams do a very, very good job with what they’ve got?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
