With Update 36’s first preview on the test server this past week, Lord of the Rings Online fans and devs alike find themselves looking ahead to the summer’s King’s Gondor release. The repurposed Gondor zones, addition of landscape difficulty to live servers, a siege system for PvMP, and a whole bunch of instances added to the delving system make this a “little something for everybody” kind of event, which is why several different Standing Stone Games devs popped onto Friday’s livestream to talk about the changes and additions.
With special token drops and additional emotes to buy, the difficulty system will become somewhat more rewarding than it was on the legendary servers. This is an opt-in program that ranges from mildly more challenging to groups-needed-at-all-times.
While we didn’t get much chatter at all about King’s Gondor, a big chunk of the stream was devoted to the PvP siege system and its beta state. The team is eager to crack this particular nut to boost PvP engagement in the game: “It should be something that is more entertaining and drives more direct player agency in the Ettenmoors as a whole.”
