Smallest in terms of playerbase size, that is.

I wondered about this the other day when I was writing up a piece that included mention of The Grey War, a super indie MMO. As I was writing it, the game’s website counted exactly 15 players online. It’s still in beta, so that’s not the kiss of death or anything, but it definitely gave me a little burst of sadness because dangit, I’m an economy player, and that means I want and need there to be a robust playerbase for that type of gameplay to function for me. I’m guessing a solid MMO server needs around 500-1000 players to really get to the stage where it feels massive and you don’t know everyone by name.
