The Daily Grind: Do you ever try out MMOs that aren’t MMORPGs?

Burn it all.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that most of our staff and the majority of our readers are here because they care about MMORPGs first and foremost. That’s certainly why I’m here. Games that are still MMOs but don’t have the RPG on the end just aren’t as interesting to me. But that’s not the same as having no interest. Sure, I’m not going to be jumping into a battle royale or MOBA any time soon (because I just don’t like them), but there are some fun survival sandboxes out there as well as some pseudo-MMOs of other genres.

That’s not to say that one stance or the other is more pure in some way; it’s entirely fair if your only love other than MMORPGs is just single-player RPGs and thus you wouldn’t really want to run around in a persistent ARPG in online mode. So do you ever try out MMOs that aren’t MMORPGs? Either because the game specifically looks fun or because it’s a variant on gameplay you know you enjoy?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
