Whether anyone likes it or not, it looks as if the official MMORPG forums are going the way of the dinosaurs, as even Jagex’s long-running games RuneScape and Old School RuneScape have both announced that their official forums will be taken offline on Thursday, March 28th.

“Right now our forums represent a very small fraction of the discussions happening in the RuneScape community,” read the twin announcements. “While we acknowledge their historical significance, their current functionality falls short compared to what external platforms can provide.”

Those external platforms primarily involve the Discords for both games, though Jagex is also promising “high levels of activity” on each MMO’s subreddits and Twitter accounts. In the meantime, the forums will become read-only on January 25th, allowing fans time to capture any conversations that they wish before things go completely dark. “We’re incredibly excited to continue embracing newer platforms such as Discord, and we’re looking forward to seeing your personal favourite interactions and moments from the forums in the coming weeks,” the announcements close.
