Whether you believe Ubisoft Singapore or not, the studio is more than happy to toot its horn over Skull and Bones’ successful December closed beta test, as a video posted to the game’s Twitter account is gushing with appreciation and activity numbers in equal measure.

According to senior community developer Alexis Cretton, “hundreds of thousands of players” took part in last month’s test for the first time, engaging in 4 million naval battles that sunk over 3 million ships while sailing over 7 million kilometers across the game’s seas in total – that’s roughly 180 times around the Earth.

“I just wanted to share with you how incredibly thankful the whole team is for all the support and encouragement we’ve received from the community during and since our closed beta,” says Cretton. “The success of this closed beta and the unprecedented engagement we’ve seen amongst our players is a direct result of the community-driven approach we have embraced with Skull and Bones more than a year ago.”

It’s here that we point out that Skull and Bones has been delayed six different times, has shuffled through three different creative directors, and saw workers within Ubisoft Singapore begin to organize a union in September following Ubisoft’s widespread 2020 sexual harassment scandal that extended into the satellite studio – a matter that was brushed aside by the country’s Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices.

The video closes with word that an open beta is planned to begin “in just a few weeks,” with details promised to come out “very soon” on the game’s social channels. The game itself is angling to finally release on Friday, February 16th.
