Remember back in 2022, when we first learned a trio of Mythic vets – Brian Johnson, Ray Soto, and Mythic co-founder Rob Denton – were putting the band back together to build some sort of multiplayer survivalbox under the Loric Games banner? That banner is waving again this morning as Loric has picked up another big name in MMOs as well as a stack of cash.

First, the big name is Jeff Hickman, whom MMO players will remember as a top producer on Dark Age of Camelot, Warhammer Age of Reckoning, and Star Wars The Old Republic. He’ll be Chief Production Officer at Loric Games. “Joining the talented team at Loric is like coming back home,” he says in the presser. “We’re not just colleagues; we’re co-conspirators in a grand adventure.”

And second, the studio has picked up a cool $4M infusion thanks to its latest funding round.

“Loric Games secured a substantial $4 million USD in led by 1AM Gaming, a testament to the studio’s potential in shaping the future of online gaming. The investment will empower Loric Games to amplify its efforts in creating cutting-edge co-op RPGs, fostering innovation and excellence in a genre that’s ready for something new and unique.”

Of course, we still don’t know what the game is beyond those teases about survival sandboxes and co-op RPG. Graphics on the studio’s website – and current job openings – hint at an “open world” fantasy “stylized survival game” with a “story-based hero’s journey,” as well as crafting, gathering, spawns, and robotic contraptions.
