Elite Dangerous players successfully destroy the first Thargoid Titan

Update 18 of Elite: Dangerous was subtitled Kill the Titans, so that headline is probably a foregone conclusion, but all the same it’s worth noting that one of the first Thargoid Titans was successfully destroyed over the weekend, marking a major milestone for in-game humans in the multi-month Thargoid War.

The Taranis Titan had been under assault since last week, with players using the torpedoes added in the patch to break the eight hearts of the immense alien craft. Last Saturday at 7:00 p.m. EST, the Titan exploded after catostrophic failure, sending out a cloud of poisonous gas and a massive debris field that’s too dangerous to enter right now. Elite player and Lave Radio host Colin “Phoenix_Dfire” Ford was on hand to capture the event, and another player shared a screenshot on Reddit.

Players who participated in the destruction of the Taranis Titan should be getting their rewards soon, while seven more Titans remain to be eliminated, and while the process of killing a Titan isn’t a quick one, the past weekend’s events prove that it can be done. As for those aforementioned rewards – namely, Arx grants – Frontier Developments clarified that they were already being paid out for those who participated in breaking the Titan’s hearts.

The live explosion can be seen in Ford’s video clip below (though be advised it’s being viewed through VR, so first-person head movements are aplenty), while a summary video from YouTube channel Galnet News Digest awaits below as well.
