The Daily Grind: What’s the most expensive item you’ve ever seen someone buy or sell in an MMORPG?

I’m talking about in-game currencies, not cash-shop crappies, mind you!

Last night, I attended a posh auction in City of Heroes Homecoming on the Everlasting server, in a gorgeous base (vaultluxe-17647) by the kind @Easter Bunny and @BBBadger, and the roleplayers were auctioning off everything from charity dates and farming runs to pro Mids character builds. But the thing I came to see was the auction of several houses – that is, supergroup bases (with attached guilds) that had been built out as houses by expert build designers and then put on this exclusive market for money. Friends, one of those houses sold for 2,800,000,000 inf – a truly absurd amount of cash for what is a total superfluity in a game about arresting baddies. Apparently, some of the more involved commissioned builds on the server have gone for four or five times that much. That’s… insane. And awesome! I had no idea, honestly, what a skilled builder could pull.

What’s the most expensive in-game item you’ve ever seen bought or sold between players in an MMORPG?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
