A conversation with MOP’s Carlo the other day made me wonder about this topic. Folks who were 40 or so when the first MMOs rolled out are now eyeing retirement, and if nostalgia is really all it’s cracked up to be, then MMOs should be on the cusp of a renaissance as all these older gamers suddenly have a lot of time to go along with their disposable incomes. MMOs seem tailor-made for that kind of gamer, right?
I don’t know anymore. Does anyone believe that’s the arc we’re on? Or are people just going to retire to classic servers, old MMOs, emulators, or MMO-lite games like survival titles instead? Which MMOs are best primed for retirement gamers?
