Abyss Online studio Old World Labs seeks to hire more staff to help its flagging MMORPG

Last week, Abyss Online developer Old World Labs did the opposite of marketing its early access MMO, as it instead warned potential players away from buying in until the self-admitted “absolute chaos” was better managed. In order to achieve that goal, the studio is now hiring for some additional help.

The job listings in question are for network gameplay programmers, technical artists, AI programmers, and UI artists. Required skills all appear to be pretty standard fare, with nearly all job postings requiring knowledge of Unreal Engine 5’s toolset. “As we dive deeper into the immersive world of Aeternea, we are looking for passionate and skilled developers to join us on this epic adventure and help refine our Early Access game,” the studio’s press release reads.

Meanwhile, the game’s fortunes have only gotten worse, as SteamDB shows there is literally nobody in-game at the time of this article’s writing and Steam user reviews at a “mostly negative” aggregate. Ideally, the additional hands will help, but time might be short on righting the ship considering how Abyss’ first impressions have been.
