Awake: Afterdark Apocalypse is a ridiculous gen-AI Kickstarter game that purports to be ‘the spiritual successor to the MMO’

Pack it in, kiddos, for the new champion of MMOs has arrived on the scene. It’s called Awake: Afterdark Apocalypse, and if the title and use of heavy metal in its trailer doesn’t tell you that this game is awesome, then you haven’t checked out its Kickstarter yet.

Awake bills itself as a “Massive Open World Post Apocalypse Sp/Mp/Co Op MMORPGA” — the extra “A” must be for “Astounding.” The studio supposedly making this – We Just Did Games – claims that Awake will be “the spiritual successor to the MMO” with “the largest open world in MMO history.” It’s asking for $1.9 million for this month’s Kickstarter campaign, and amazingly, it’s almost at its goal:

According to what is surely the most insane Kickstarter pitch we’ve ever seen, Awake will be just one of five parts of an “Ultimate Sagaverse,” which also includes a live-action TV series. And also these devs are selling something they’re calling “Apocalypse Pills” – multivitamin gummies – right on the official site. You also can’t scroll a tick without running into the AI art slathered everywhere, interspersed with “Graphic Design Is My Passion” tier images and roadmaps that are clearly going for absurdity.

So yes, we’re pretty sure this is a joke, and if somehow it’s not a joke, then it’s something you should stay far, far away from regardless. But at least it’s amusing everyone with a trailer that promises virtually everything you might want in an MMO, including speedboats, zombies, bikinis, mechs, and nuclear explosions?

There’s a music video because of course there is:
