Theorycraft Games is a studio name that’s popped up several times over the last couple of years, largely owing to the fact that it was headed by former Riot Games developers and a huge stack of, a large chunk of it from every game dev’s favorite piggybank, NetEase. Last year, the team was talking up what it was calling Project Loki, a supposed “10,000-hour game” aspiring to be “equal parts hero shooter, action game, and battle royale.”
Well, Project Loki has a full name and a big announcement as of today, as Theorycraft is now calling the game Supervive. SUPERVIVE, actually, though we’d rather not shout at you. The team is now calling it an “improvisational action sandbox” that “embraces open-ended abilities, powers, items, and world interactions, as well as physics-based combat and movement, allowing for expressive and intuitive action and traversal,” but don’t be confused; there’s absolutely nothing like a sandbox here (stoppit). It’s still very much a MOBA/BR hybrid, though a slick neon one.
“SUPERVIVE, a free-to-play, squad-based hero battle royale, has players team up in groups of two or four to battle enemies across a vast, sky-bound map while a deadly storm encroaches upon them. Players engage in dynamic combat, complete objectives, and use unique powers and equipment to devise creative strategies to outplay other teams and be the last squad standing. SUPERVIVE will always be free-to-play and is designed to ensure that cosmetics are the only in-game purchases, with no pay-for-power elements, ever.”
Open beta is expected in late 2024, but there’s a big playtest slated for June 27th-July 4th, for which you can preregister now.
