The First Descendant talks up new characters, ultimate weapons, and tools to make the perfect build

We’re only days away from the global launch of Nexon’s looter shooter The First Descendant, which means that fans might already be considering their choice of character. However, that choice might have gotten a little harder thanks to the introduction of three new characters in the game’s latest video. Or perhaps it’s made that choice easier if you would rather play one of the new arrivals.

The video talks up the potential for “personal unique strategy” in terms of player loadout and combat expression, and it of course starts with choosing a Descendant that fits personal playstyle. The devs talk up existing characters like Bunny and Valby, then introduce three new arrivals: Esiemo, a bomb-throwing mine-laying explosives lover; Enzo, who is capable of summoning drones and putting down ammo; and Yujin, described as a classic healer class.

The video then goes over ultimate weapons, which can synergize well with certain Descendants. The video confirms that 11 new such weapons will be available at launch, all of which promise to bring additional strategies and abilities to bear, which will come in handy against certain boss fights to mitigate things like increasingly harder shields.

The last piece of Descendant’s buildcraft is external components, which generally grant passive effects to characters. Synergy is once again the name of the game, as a given example is an external component set that effectively lets a specific character infinitely use their overcharge ability. Paired with modules, these can make a build idea come to life.

If all of this sounds confounding on paper, then the video below may make it more clear. Additionally, you can check out Andrew’s hands-on impressions from SGF of the game as well as his questions to Nexon’s devs.
