Hearthstone apologizes for the past 18 months, shares ‘Fun, Focus, and Fearless’ vision

While Hearthstone’s brand-new Perils in Paradise expansion should be the talk of the game these days, Blizzard is instead doing damage control over an increasingly dissatisfied and rebellious community that’s not been happy about where the title’s been headed (including the fact that Perils in Paradise lacked an expected new board).

Executive Producer Nathan Lyons-Smith wrote a letter to the community apologizing for the past 18 months of unexpected changes and subpar communication. “We didn’t do a good job communicating our strategy around those changes. I apologize for that. Going forward, it is my goal to be more open,” Lyons-Smith said.

The EP went on to share a vision for the future of Hearthstone, which is “fun, focus, and fearless.” Part of that vision is a “very cool update” for Arena, pets, and a system to choose your favorite boards.

“We are doing meaningful research and development for the future of Hearthstone to ensure that the Tavern will be a home for you for another decade and beyond. While we are not ready to share any information about this work yet—and will not be for a while—I want you to know that we are committed to Hearthstone as we know it today,” Lyons-Smith said.
