RuneScape microtransaction survey ponders the potential full removal of lockboxes

treasure hunting is one step from lockboxes

RuneScape’s Treasure Hunter activity, aka the lockbox portion of its wider monetization scheme, is facing the potential for removal from the game, at least if the questions in a player survey are any indication. Jagex is asking multiple questions about fans’ thoughts on the MMORPGs microtransactions, and several of them appear to be gauging interest in killing Treasure Hunter entirely.

The survey questions cast a pretty wide net about microtransactions, asking players things about their spending habits, how lockboxes affect enjoyment of the game, what subscription prices would make the game feel too cheap or too expensive, and whether or not spending habits or returning to the game would change if Treasure Hunter or other MTX were cut out completely.

Player response to the survey questions can be best described as pleasantly surprised, with many speaking in favor of the end of lockboxes in the game and others hoping Jagex will spread word of this survey to reach lapsed players (aka the very sort of person many of these questions are meant for). So if you do have thoughts on this matter, it’s probably in your best interests to fill this thing out.
