Ultima Online’s New Legacy will finally launch October 15

If you noticed that Ultima Online’s New Legacy stress test came to an end on Tuesday without, you know, an actual date for the launch, then you weren’t alone. I even spent part of yesterday digging around the forums, where people were wondering what exactly is going on. Fortunately, Broadsword didn’t make us wait all that long, as now it’s announced an October 15th release date.

“We are extremely excited to announce the first season of Ultima Online: New Legacy will begin on Tuesday, October 15, 2024! Players will be able to login that day starting at noon ET and begin to forge their legacy!”

Worth noting here is that New Legacy, a sandpark-esque alternative ruleset server for the longrunning MMORPG, has been delayed repeatedly throughout its four-year public development run; the intent, established this year, was to launch it at the end of September in time for the game’s 27th birthday. That was last week, of course, meaning the launch is several weeks delayed, but at least it’s finally happening.

Forumgoers, incidentally, are still anxious for hard details about the launch, like how long seasons will run and how the transfer-off features will be handled. Broadsword has promised “additional FAQs” on the official website “for maximum transparency” at an unspecified date.
