Shroud of the Avatar added a fishing hat, polishes quests, and applies fixes in Release 130

Any angler worth their salt knows that putting on the right fishing equipment is… probably not going to make fish bite your bait but it does make you feel pretty good. Now players of Shroud of the Avatar can recreate that stylish yet statistically useless feeling with a new bucket hat item recipe in Release 130.

The hat in question is the same model as one that was being sold in the game’s cash shop, only without the color scheme that references the show M.A.S.H., though the craftable bucket hat comes in a simple and fancy version that has a contrasting band and brim. So swish.

R130 is otherwise another polish month’s worth of updates that adds additional cosmetic recipes like a coal pile and a pinecone-holding squirrel spawner, applies several quest and zone fixes, and makes a couple of small changes to the player-owned towns of Meadowbrook and Persephone’s Throne.

Longtime MOP readers will know that Shroud of the Avatar is a controversial game in the MMO space. Kickstarted in 2013, the project has been criticized for cutting promised features, crowdfunding excessively, delaying Kickstarter rewards, obfuscating its corporate leadership and office status, and neglecting SEC filings legally required by the game’s equity crowdfunding. In 2019, Richard Garriott company Portalarium sold SOTA to its lead dev and all but exited the game. Press inquires were met with stonewalling and insults, and equity crowdfund investors were abandoned without notice or any semblance of accountability; moreover, the execs began touting a (failed?) blockchain MMO and a battle royale. SOTA itself does still have a tiny playerbase and is technically still receiving minimal development.
