Amazon’s New World is about to launch Aeternum next week, but I’m still thinking about the playtest. In that playtest, Amazon promised cosmetics to testers who achieved certain leveling milestones. And in a way, I’m glad to see MMO developers come up with ways to reward testers that actually get some testing accomplished. It’s better than being completely unpaid, unmotivated QA, right? At least you got something for your effort.
But at the same time, I’m… still not gonna do it. And I didn’t. Even cosmetics aren’t usually enough to get me to grind out levels on a server that’s being deleted, especially when leveling is usually the most boring part of MMOs, anyhow, and if I really want to play the game, I’m going to do all that same stuff on the live server, so why spoil it for myself? I don’t think I’ll ever understand the folks who do it for nothing at all. Bless y’all.
Tell me: Do you bother leveling much in MMORPG playtests?
