The teeny City of Heroes rogue server Rebirth updated players on its Issue 7 patch yesterday – and it’s good news and bad news. The bad news is that The Coming Storm patch has apparently been delayed, and worse, it’s delayed all the way into 2025. The good news is that the team has an even better reason that’ll make it worth the wait.
“We know this delay may be disappointing, but we’re committed to delivering the most ambitious post-sunset update for City of Heroes that you’ve ever experienced,” the player devs boldly write. “We appreciate your understanding as we navigate some real-life challenges that have impacted our team’s schedule. Many of our developers have stepped up as heroes in their communities—providing hurricane relief, caring for elders, battling personal health issues, and navigating unexpected life events. Despite these challenges, our commitment to delivering an incredible gaming experience remains unwavering.”
So what’s actually in the patch? The devs are teasing their own version of the Kallisti Wharf zone, with new enemies, tons of new missions, new contacts and story arcs, new badges, “over a dozen new mission maps,” and full-color costume customization. Frankly, just the full palette of colors for costumes is a huge leap forward for any version of the game, and it’d be wonderful for the broader City of Heroes community if more servers adopted these changes.
