Fantastic Pixel Castle’s upcoming MMO codenamed Ghost (aka Greg Street presents Ghostboi Adventures Online starring Bobby Battle Crabâ„¢) is wrapping up its year of development with a new prototype gameplay video that offers curious onlookers a peek at “what [the game] currently looks like and where it’s headed” according to studio head Greg Street.
The video opens by admitting that the preview uses a lot of premade Unreal assets and some overall “rough edges,” but Street argues that showing gameplay at this early stage is the best way to grant FPC’s devs sufficient time to react to feedback, while the footage itself features actual players in-game during a November test session.
While the gameplay footage is indeed very early, it offers a pretty clear look at the overall loop of gathering at a social hub, choosing a class from a selection of basic archetypes, forming a party, and entering into blue zones and red zones. As explained by the studio before, blue zones are private instances for solo players or small groups that randomly generate the terrain and objectives, while red zones are hand-crafted challenge areas that are more typical of modern MMO open maps.
Sprinkled throughout the video are concept art peeks at a new Wychwood biome that’s described as “Midsummer Night’s Dream meets Baba Yaga,” a preview of planned classes that Street describes as “out there,” and confirmation that dungeons and raids will definitely be part of Ghost along with endgame blue and red zones. Street also closes the video by confirming the project still has a few years to go but also feels confident that FPC can work faster than more traditional MMO studios. It’s a pretty full wrap-up of current progress that can be seen below.
