World of Warcraft has added a whopping 38,000 quests in 20 years

We're fine.

Here’s a fun fact: Originally, Blizzard intended to create only around 100 Horde, 100 Alliance, and 100 neutral quests for World of Warcraft, as the studio saw these as an on-ramp to the eventual grind- and raidfest that it (and a lot of other MMOs back then) expected from MMO players at the time. However, the system proved to be so popular that the studio pumped in many, many more quests for the release — and kept adding thousands of them ever since.

In a new interview for Edge magazine, former Blizzard VP Rob Pardo said WoW testers got grumpy when they ran out of quests. “The answer, of course, was to simply add more,” he said, indicating that the team whipped up “ten times the amount” of planned quests.

To date, World of Warcraft has topped 38,000 quests across all of its lands and expansions, with more coming in each content patch. More are expected to come with this month’s Siren Isle and early 2025’s Undermine additions.
