Once Human’s new achievements are powered by cash shop currency – obviously, players aren’t happy

News about what’s next for survivalbox Once Human was pouring out of NetEase’s Starry Studio last week to the point that a bit of eyebrow-raising new monetization that landed with its recent patch nearly flew under the radar had it not been for angry players raising a stink about monetization.

Among the many additions to the cash shop like lockboxes and cosmetics was a Meta’s Bounty Season 0, a list of 20 different achievements for players to take up and chase in order to earn themselves some unique rewards. Players purchase these so-called bounties with crystgin cash shop currency or earn them through specific events, with three of these bounties available through limited holiday events and other achievement unlocks and the remaining 17 bought at costs ranging from one to 320; our tipster notes that getting all of these bounties costs 2,802 crystgin, or around $40.

Interestingly enough, this new pay-to-cheevo system is not a focal point of the aforementioned Reddit discussion (though there are a couple of replies that do nod to it). Most player complaints are focused on pushback against lockboxes in general as well as the costs for cosmetics, along with arguments against the thread OP’s assertion that Once Human is “becoming a victim to the anti-monetization crowd.”
