Do you remember Gatewalkers? It’s a sci-fi co-op survival ARPG that we first reported on in 2020 and even shared some impressions from an open alpha event that same year. It’s been quite some time since we peered in on this one, so we’re circling back around to find out that it’s basically come to its final form and its developer is moving to other things.
Let’s recap: The game entered beta in February 2021, launched a couple of demos in 2021 and 2022, shared a wide variety of character and mechanics previews throughout all of 2022, and finally saw a full release in January 2023. Several post-launch patches arrived, the largest of which landing that March, which brought matchmaking and offline mode features among other things, while its final patch came two months later.
As you might expect from a game that hasn’t seen new updates in nearly two years, player numbers have long since tailed off to two players at maximum, while developer A2Softworks is now hard at work on its next game, Pirate Commander, a single-player survival strategy title all about managing a pirate ship.
