What? That’s all of them. What do you want from me? I currently live alone! There are 20 names in that list, I have 20 forks, I am a single adult living in an apartment, and I do not need more forks! No, I don’t run out of forks; there is one of me! The cats do not use forks! I would love it if they were able to use forks, but they don’t! I do not require additional forks! Way to rub it in, jerk.
Bonus question: What’s a piece of media (movie, game, show, book, doesn’t matter) that you were ready to dislike that you wound up really enjoying? (Note that saying something was less bad than you expected does not count here. You have to go in expecting to not like it and wind up liking it.)
Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Exercise games, but also the pup got invited to a gaming night at someone’s house, so wish us luck in Jackbox and overall puppy manners!
Keeping it to gaming, Orna. It really doesn’t look like much, and you can call it a grinder, but there’s so much going on just in combat. Endgame wise, there’s no real “just dps” class. The glass canons are super glassy, the pet classes require a little juggling, the tank can’t just sit there and tank… it’s a lot! I still don’t think it’s a great game to play while walking, but the bonuses I get from passive walking while the app is closed is nice enough to keep me going most days when I feel tired, and having content nearby when I’m home is great too.
Brianna Royce (@nbrianna.bsky.social, blog): Planning to dip into Guild Wars 2 this weekend, and I’m also still playing The Sims 4. So much to catch up on since the last time I paid it any mind!
I honestly expected to hate Firefly. The vibe was so “1990s cowboy western revival in space,” so it looked cringey to me – I mean, we’d just had a whole generation of Dr Quinn Medicine Woman and Young Guns and ugggg. But my friends made me sit down and watch Firefly, and it turns out I am, in fact, into 1990s cowboy western revival in space, so there you go
Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes.bsky.social, blog): I’m mostly going to sate myself by dinking around in the second open beta of Monster Hunter Wilds as I count down the weeks, but I also plan to dip in and out of Final Fantasy XIV and perhaps try another swing at making Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis land. Assuming I tear myself away from the first choice, anyway.
For the longest time, I was ready to just wholesale ignore Dungeons & Dragons Online. I mean, it just looked… bad. Like, really really bad. And old. And creaky. And why would people play this over Neverwinter? But then I tried it and found it actually superior; yes, it’s definitely creaky, but in a charming way, and the sensation of playing a TTRPG in MMO form still feels incomparable.
Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): My primary game is definitely going to be Warframe just because, y’know, there are a couple big events going down right now and I need to get Stuff from them. Honestly, that’ll probably occupy enough of my time that FFXIV is very secondary.
I can’t explain why it had somehow wedged into my brain, but some deep-seated part of me really disliked Napoleon Dynamite even before watching the movie, and when it got popular with the sort of people whom I normally spent time around it only re-ignited some contrarian impulse in me. I was so dedicated to disliking it that the first time I watched it I kinda did dislike it. But it also still stuck with me, and when I gave it a second viewing I realized I had really been way too hard on what is ultimately a really funny, weird film that I shouldn’t have spent nearly so much time being antagonistic toward.
Sam Kash (@samkash@mastodon.social): I really thought I’d have more time to play New World than I have recently. There were a few nights that it looked like I’d log in but then I thought about the issues they were having with the new season and decided to play some other games. So this weekend, maybe. Throne and Liberty is still looming large. My wife and I finally finished the campaign game we were playing so there will soon be time.
Bonus: This one was easy: Everything Everywhere All At Once. I was absolutely certain this was going to be one of those films that is just overhyped. Plus I thought, what do I have in common with these characters? I just didn’t expect to care at all. Then on a long flight I saw it in the entertainment and I let it rip. Wow. It was actually fantastic.
Tyler Edwards (blog): More World of Warcraft and The First Descendant. I want to finish catching up on all the content I skipped in WoW, so I’m going to begrudingly start playing through the Battle for Azeroth story.
Bonus: Never one to enjoy cyberpunk, I thought I’d hate The Matrix, but I ended up loving it. Star Trek: Prodigy also comes to mind. I’ve mostly hated modern Star Trek, and I rarely enjoy children’s media, so on paper this shouldn’t have been a show I liked at all, but it’s become my third favorite Trek spin-off behind TNG and Enterprise.
