We’re still not over Project Blackbird’s sudden cancellation after a great deal of work, but it’s impossible to know how a video game will play from nothing more than a couple minutes of footage. That’s just not how anything works. Still, two minutes of teaser footage for the cancelled project have been leaked online, and… come on, this looks pretty awesome even though it doesn’t actually contain any gameplay.
Apparently, the two minutes of footage on display here were part of a lighting test in Unreal Engine 4, and it certainly raises plenty of speculation about how the game would have felt in action as you look at the game’s landscape and overall aesthetic.
It also raised speculation about whether it’s even real to begin with. Insider-Gaming says it verified it with sources. “The footage, which Insider Gaming can verify is legitimate, was used internally at ZeniMax to showcase the game’s lighting in Unreal Engine 4,” IG’s Tom Henderson writes.
It’s not as if most of the people who care about Project Blackbird need extra reasons to be sad that the game was cancelled in mid-development with people apparently giving rave reviews to the early playtests, but if you want more visuals to associate with the game in your mind, here you go. Just don’t be surprised if you’re even more disappointed afterwards.
