Sorry, Steam fans, but the platform’s non-gaming video section is being retired. Yes, you will no longer be able to buy hit movies like John Wick, The Hunger Games, or Mad Max: Fury Road on the platform. And if your response to this news is “wait, that was an option?” then you probably can understand exactly why this is being shut down.
For the record, this service has been present in Steam for several years, allowing users to purchase a variety of well-known films and series for rewatching via Steam. It was never very popular, however (it’s hard to convince people to use Steam for this when Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube already exist), and Valve has announced that it’s shuttering this section of Steam as part of a refocusing effort. Those who already own films or series will still be able to view them, but no new purchases will be available.
