There comes a time in every early access — well, most every early access — when rapid expansion must be met by controlled decline. As Dark and Light no longer has the population demands of its early, heady days as an early access title, Snail is carefully closing servers that are no longer needed.
We saw an initial batch of these go dark last month, and another round of server closures is slated for some time this week. A full list of all of the servers, indicating the surviving and shuttered ones, is available for the public to peruse. The plan for both of these batches was to reduce the number of official servers from 344 to a more manageable 100.
Dark and Light recently dropped its price to $18, which makes this online fantasy sandbox a lot more affordable than it has been in the past. Snail Games indicated that a full release is coming some time in the near future.
As we covered earlier today, Snail Games has been busy indeed, just not on Dark and Light: It recently announced a new indie publishing label to deploy games in the west, beginning with Outlaws of the Old West.
