The Final Fantasy XIV team has an expansion on the way, but the team is also working at making sure the game offers the best environment possible for its players leading up to that expansion. That’s the stated justification for the latest update to prohibited activities that can land players in hot water. Most notable among these changes is a new rule that prohibits players from advertising runs to clear content in exchange for currency, ostensibly to prevent RMT activity within the game.

Readers will remember that this sort of activity has been in the news recently, with Blizzard studio co-leader Mike Ybarra publicly advertising selling runs and igniting controversy among World of Warcraft’s playerbase over the behavior.

While the rules do not prevent a player from advertising the intent to buy a run, advertising a run being sold is now disallowed via the party finder; using other methods of advertisement is still accepted, however. More specific details of prohibited actions are now also listed to provide players with concrete examples of what is and is not worthy of punishment, and there’s a clearer set of details on what happens when rules are violated either once or repeatedly. Check out the full update to get all of the details on what is and is not allowed.
