Sony shuts down LittleBigPlanet 3 for good, along with all its online player-created levels

The only thing worse than your favorite online game getting a sunset is seeing it abruptly shut down with no warning while taking everything you made in it away. This worst case scenario happened this past weekend to fans of Sony’s multiplayer puzzle-platform LittleBigPlanet 3, as the studio announced that it is permanently shutting down the game over “ongoing technical issues.”

“Due to ongoing technical issues which resulted in the LittleBigPlanet 3 servers for PS4 being taken offline temporarily in January 2024, the decision has been made to keep the servers offline indefinitely,” Sony said. “All online services including access to other players’ creations for LittleBigPlanet 3 are no longer available.”

The loss of millions of player-created levels isn’t sitting well with the community. “So instead of fixing [the servers]… you just give up?” one player asked. “Wow. I don’t even play this game and I’m furious for all the people who busted their asses making great levels and wanted to share their work to others. Do better, video gaming as a whole,” said another.

Maybe that Stop Killing Games initiative is starting to make more sense these days.
