Star Wars: The Old Republic is launching the next story chapter on March 10th

With the tenth chapter of Knights of the Fallen Empire available to players of Star Wars: The Old Republic, the question on every player’s mind is “when does the next part launch?” And the answer has already been given: March 10th, or March 8th for those subscribed by March 1st. It was one of the topics covered in yesterday’s producer stream, which also covered the other features coming along with Chapter XI and the plans in the further future.

The Eternal Championship will be coming along with the next chapter, offering players a rare mount and pet along with a weekly quest for taking on the challenge solo. A new Warzone and arena are both planned for testing within the next three weeks, with a planned launch alongside Chapter XII. Players can look forward to more details on the Eternal Championship coming this month and several quality-of-life improvements, including the ability to own all five Strongholds per legacy. Check out the archived stream footage just below.

It’s not about being time consuming so much.  It’s that the constraints of a skill based group are incompatible with being an adult.  Adults play team sports but they don’t play them seriously in a league with teams.  This is the same thing really.

There’s no writing on the wall for MMO’s.  Raiding was never popular in the first place.  It was simply that people were content with any social activity.  Now that they no longer have time for raiding MMO’s simply need to provide better social activities.

Karl_Hungus Considering the picture they show of the helmet looks like it is apart of a HK themed set..I wouldn’t be surprised if the six months following the helmet..see the HK chest, leggings, boots, gloves, belt and wrists added too lol.  It would be totally LAME to do it that way..but it wouldn’t surprise me.

In all honesty I have the droid back and a nice themed jetpack.. for me they can leave the HK theme alone now and give us subs something different. Sky Trooper combat pet license would be nice :)

Karl_Hungus What if they counted the number of people who made Jorgan their CO and went with that? While I like Elara better, she and Forex are the ones with high influence in my team, but I did make Jorgan my CO. Made more sense from a military viewpoint.

sray155 I thought he was decent. The romance with him was actually quite cool and felt like two adults agreeing to something. It didn`t feel overdone or overdramatic.

I think many people just don`t like him because of the proloque where he`s pretty strict with the player char.

@dorn2 I’ve beem trying to write my guest soapbox on that topic for a few months now, but I keep finding that it’s too massive a topic to do justice in a few hundred words. But yeah, there’s a huge connection between the youngest GenX’ers now being in their late 30s/early 40s and the increasing demand for MMORPGs to become significantly less time consuming, which is often confused with being “too easy” by time rich teens and twenty-somethings (not to say that SWTOR couldn’t use a tweek i that dept right now).

I’ve run a few female soldiers and have refused to romance Jorgan every time: he’s just too damn boring.

Some good info. Liking that the warzone comes out earlier than I expected.

But seriously? The weekly for the enternal Championship is only for solo?
Dammit why are they punishing grouping.

I don´t think Bioware realizes that cutscenes don`t make this a good single player RPG.

4X is cool. Great lines, great voice acting. He would’ve been a better option than Jorgan. A droid has more personality than Jorgan. That’s saying something. I wouldn’t say Jorgan is the worst in the game but he’s definitely up there.

Karl_Hungus ehh the only havoc squad member i liked was M1-4x.    Worst I would have to say is Corso Riggs.

I’m glad my remaining subscription time will allow me to get these nice benefits. Too bad 1050 CC isn’t the regularly monthly stipend instead of the paltry 500 that just makes you want to buy more CC so you can actually get a hypercrate more than once a year. But sub by March 1st and get an HK helmet? What’s in April? His hands? Can we expect to completely look like HK by the time this is all said and done? I never got the HK fanboyism and I certainly don’t get it now, but I digress.

It’s good to see Havoc Squad come back but Jorgan? Major Jorgan? Really? He’s easily one of the absolute worst companions in the game. Elara Dorne should be a Major and in charge of Havoc Squad. She’s a far more complex character with a backstory that doesn’t put you to sleep, unlike Jorgan. Also, I like everything they’ve said about the new warzone so far except the part about Lana Beniko talking throughout the whole thing. Baron Deathmark or GTFO!! It’s also good that both the warzone and arena are going to be on the PTS. Let’s just hope they listen to our feedback this time so we don’t have another repeat of Quesh-ball.

Morningrise dorn2 plynky12 I think there’s a big difference between the end of MMORPGs and the end of grouping in MMORPGs. I don’t think we are seeing the end of grouping altogether, but more and more players are recognising that they don’t have to choose between playing strong story-based single player games or social MMORPGs where grouped combat replaces story, they can in fact play alongside other players with all the social aspects of guilds and multi-play while focusing on story-based content.

I think they’ll survive but more in the Destiny/The Division theme. Massive (as in 8 players) and then you instance a lot of the other things. Those games are far more manageable to create content for I’d imagine, since you can DLC a lot of it, instead of wide, overarching themes.
Even Funcom is making the Conan game less of an MMO.

So, KoTFE was great for group content.  Level sync and bringing Ops into relevance again brought more grouping into this so called “solo” MMO.  And so will the Eternal Championship.  Sound counter intuitive?  It isn’t.  Our guild will tackle this in groups.  Those that want to continue it solo for the challenge will do so.  Those that have no interesting in mastering it won’t.  The fact that you can group up during the championship is enough.

As for the rest?  The game needs to amp things up this spring.  Need to move forward and seemingly they are trying.  King of the hill in PvP is a good step, but it is the other shoe that needs to drop too, Ops.

The story cadence is fine and fun, but for the old vets, there needs to be some inkling that there will be more.

BW, you have new players in droves.  You have brought back old players and they have been sticking around because so much has been added and changed.  Now, retaining the old vets has to be in your cross-hairs.

Morningrise There is more to having an online social interaction than simply “I must group with other players to advance.” Having challenging content in a game for several different play modes is not a negative thing, especially when content is specifically designed to push solo players to their limits.
I do a lot of solo play, but I also do a lot of roleplaying and engage actively with the economic side of the game. Just because I’m not running every dungeon in a group doesn’t mean that I’m not having social interactions with the other players who are online.

I love playing the game as if its a solo RPG, but at the same time seeing a crowded world and social hubs with lots of players. Even though I play solo I like the world to feel like it has people in it. I don’t know why, I just do.

captainzor Estranged This is part of the issue with not having a modding option.   Just a good calendar system would help greatly.  Many people just don’t want to be bothered looking at a guild website.

plynky12 The Eternal Championship is designed to be (more) solo content.  It’s not that they grant extra rewards for soloing it, they are taking the rewards away if you invite a friend to play with you.
And yes, they are trying to destroy any incentive to group up in this game…

Estranged I just wish guild management was getting updated more than it is.  The legacy column and ability to mark main characters is nice but there’s still nothing in the way of mass stronghold key management, guild mail notifications, calendars, activity log (recruitment, gquits, etc)

They put out some interesting information during the stream:

The February subscriber gift is 1050 cartel coins (must opt in to email by February 14).
Subs can give Chapter 1 to a friend, along with a level 60 character.

Guilds will be bumped up from 500 to 1000 members soon.

Estranged plynky12 They did try that with Rise of the Hutt Cartel. Some of the instances (such as the ones in the Macrobinocular and Seeker Droid quests) scaled the difficulty to the number of players in the instance.
True to SWTOR form though, there were reports that it had a tendency to bug out, allegedly leaving single players fighting at four-man difficulty. Don’t think they bothered with the idea again after that.

plynky12 Never understood why more games just can’t adjust the difficulty per player.  I guess one has to be their own man/woman to impress the Wookie.

Extra rewards for doing it solo.

It’s almost as if they don’t want any traces of the game being an MMO to remain.
