Elite: Dangerous players are already rebuilding following the Thargoid attack

For a long time, Elite: Dangerous players felt… well, not exactly safe around the Thargoids, but at least safe enough to poke or ignore the aliens as individual whims dictated. Now that the aliens are actually attacking, that safety is gone. That’s the bad news. The good news is that players are already working to rebuild the locations under attack by the aliens; civilians were evacuated and the operations are being restored now.

Players are also able to take part in new community goals to start some pre-emptive evacuations ahead of what is the expected trajectory of the Thargoid attacks, providing supplies to craft a large evacuation ship. Of course, none of that necessarily means that the Thargoid attacks are going to work the way players expect; thus far, they’ve been anything but predictable. So it’s good to see players rebuilding, but we would still advise against taunting them.

Players aren’t rebuilding the locations. Elite Dangerous doesn’t allow players to build anything. This rebuilding is just in the game’s background story, giving the players a fetch quest for building materials.

What’s interesting is that this CG seems to have been player-initiated. The “sponsor” of the rescue megaship, Sirius Inc, is a player-created faction. I think they might have got the chance to pick the location, too, which they did a great job on: only a few Ls from the star, with Outfitter and Shipyard on site, and in a system that has resource extraction sites for both miners and bounty-hunters.

While that would be cool for this to be player-driven, Sirius Corp is probably the largest and most influential corp in the galaxy. A group of players have adopted Sirius and fly for them, but Sirius itself is involved with an immense amount of influence and power within the galaxy.

In fact, their motives and goals have been very, very suspect for a good deal of time now. Assisting Sirius is one of those things that becomes a bit of a questionable act at this point in 3304. Of course, from every perspective there is a different sense of right and wrong.

Sirius Inc is a player group. Sirius Corp has nothing to do with this.
