Fantasy comedy writer Terry Pratchett, who passed away last week at the age of 66, will be honored with a place among the stars in Elite: Dangerous.
Today’s 1.2.05 patch for the MMO adds a starport named Pratchett’s Disc. Terry Pratchett was best-known for his long-running Discworld series and now joins Leonard Nimoy in having a stellar structure named after him in the new space sim.

Not sure if disqus is eating comments –
Frontier’s statement of trading from mid-Jan showed sales of 300,000
or so and sometime last week the backer portal was showing just over 400,000 – https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=15801&page=4
Genuine heartfelt tribute or cynical PR stunt to “cash in” on the death of a beloved author (or actor in the case of Nimoy.)
Here’s a quick test:
Are there stations named for Gene Roddenberry, DeForest Kelley, and James Doohan? How about Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and Hugo Gernsback? These are all important figures in the television/film or written world or science fiction, but they didn’t die recently enough for naming stations after them to get a mention on gaming sites.

I think it’s a nice little touch, it’s nothing like visiting a grave (which I would feel a bit weird doing) but it’s something more than just paying respects in your head.
That was a nice homage from them. Â Terry Pratchett will be missed :(
LordOfBread gta online and battlefront. LMAO!
Cotic_OPÂ LordOfBread Just asking but where did you get those numbers?

I think if anyone wanted a space game they would have bought a space game, they wouldn’t be sold on the back of someone dying. That would be like saying people would buy Star Citizen because of an in-game Nimoy memorial…
FTR – Elite sold 100,000 copies over the last 2 months.
LordOfBread whatever, :- Â this was a single line change in a series of patch notes, it was not highlighted nor made to stand out from the other notes. It was a simple tribute to a well loved British author made by a dev based in Britain, nothing more or less than that.
Kataq It would just be a simple redirect to the Star Citizen site.
LordOfBread You could start your own site called “GamesThatLordOfBreadLikes.com”. I’m sure it would be a hit as we all share your taste in games.
