TUG’s alpha update 0.8.4 is here, and it brings with it new magic spells, creature taming and breeding, and shield blocking. The game’s latest Kickstarter update post says to “expect a lot more focus on content for the next couple of releases,” as the dev team works on both design and the openGL engine move. The goal behind the move is to hit “much lower machine specs and get the game out there in the hands of more players,” Nerd Kingdom writes.

There’s also a new video detailing the latest patch additions. You can view it after the cut.

Until tug stops terrible (i.e. man baby characters) and super unpolished everything itll be hard to take it seriously. Also the mechanics could be less stiff.

I want this game to be great. Or just more like their concept art.

I’m currently more in to 7 Days to Die and Creativerse when it comes to indie survival/crafting/building/whatever sort of games, but have played this and enjoyed it, although haven’t put much time into it yet.  I’ve been waiting for them to flesh it out a bit more and think I’ll be firing it up again soon to see how this all looks!

Zakiel I have it on steam and dip my toes in now and again, but other games are holding my interest more.  It does hold promise though, and it’ll be a fun ‘rainy day’ game to catch up on at sometime.  :)

Oyjord On a side note, what would an amateur academic be?

TUG can be played 3rd person.
Can’t remember the key though, but I remember playing it and getting scared by my avatar’s glowing eyes.

Seriously, WTF?! They show a video of taming and getting likable, enjoyable pets.  And then he kills them and cooks them to eat?!    That is such a messed up thing!   It’s like giving a child a turkey pet for Christmas only to have the child kill it the following Thanksgiving and serving it up to all the relatives.

Still, it IS an interesting morality choice within the game…

I’ve had my eye on this game for what seems like years now. As a professional academic, I appreciate the dev team’s credentials. However, I just watched the new video and it was all in first-person. That’s a deal-breaker for me.

Zakiel It’s shaping. Slowly, but it’s shaping. One of the reasons they’re switching engines is because right now is DX11 only. If your GPU doesn’t support DX11 then you can’t play it. So they want to move it to OpenGL which means way more people can play it.
