Massively OP Podcast: Episode 14

31

When a studio is scooped by rumors, confessions, and scanty evidence, there’s no putting that cat back in the bag for a formal announcement. This week Justin and Bree talk about a business model shift, a cancelation, a delay, and a success story… although not necessarily in that order. Also, there’s a brief PSA about the dangers of monitor cords, so pay attention!

Join us on the podcast as we talk about what we’ve been playing in MMOs, the top news stories from the past week, and topics that listeners have submitted!

Don’t forget, in GUILD WARS, loots would be designated to you only (neatly avoid the NvG nightmare)–but if you didn’t want it, you could drop it back on the ground and anyone in your team could pick it up.

Also, you were asking about what the problems in NEVERWINTER ONLINE, since the Elemental Evil module launched (for the pc). The old max level was 60 and they had max level zones, you could do daily quests in to earn XP (like GUILD WARS, even at max level, you could keep earning xp that would earn you new power) and more gold, astral diamonds, gear, etc. The zones were set out well where, with skill, you could complete a mission without aggroing too many nearby mobs. And along comes Elemental Evil, which raised the level cap to 70 and added new zones to adventure in. Instead of the new adventure zones be the level 70 max-level zones, they upped the existing max-level zones to 70 and made the new zones the stepping stones that you use to level up to level 70.

Here lie the problems:
* You could still get to the quests to get to the level 70 zones while you were still at level 60, but your foes would be at level 70.
* While the max-level zones say you’re fighting at level 70, you are a lot weaker, and wipe out in seconds when before you could not only survive but thrive.
* Healing potions that you only used rarely in the max-level zones are needed constantly–yet they barely heal any percentage of your hit points.
* Purple “Epic” max-level gear are inferior to the new higher level  Green “Uncommon” gear, to say nothing of Blue “Rare” gear. However only the purple gear have the DUAL enhancement slots for torso armor and your main hand weapon.
* Meanwhile the new zones you use to level up to 70, are filled with just grinding missions (e.g., not just “kill 10 rats” but do “16 tasks” / quests in this area to get the same reward we used to on the old dailies).
* Speaking of the old dailies, those rewards have been nerfed. The new ceo or head dev said they are inspecting the problems in the game to see what fixes can be done, but the one thing they are definitely doing upfront is nerfing the daily quests’ rewards. So just as you need to level up your character and your companions, it’s that much slower to do so–as if the devs were trying to force you into the new zones.

All this talk about Reddit but I’ve never hung out there. It just seems like the place where gaming retards and douches live. It’s like the Shadowbane of community sites.

Esoteric Coyote Ahh! Cool thank you for correcting me. I’d never seen anyone do it inside the hub, so I assumed it couldn’t be done. :D

Speaking of lock boxes though.  Someone calculated how much the GW2 sinks cost via buying keys and each ticket scrap costs up to 35 bucks, which means a five ticket item $175 bucks… for a single weapon skin.  I think it might be high, but at a more than a dollar per key, it makes sense.  If another company tried to sell a weapon skin for 35 bucks people would be livid, but hide it behind RNG, and no one bats an eye.

Liandreth Some jumping animations are just so cool to watch like male worgen, charr on all fours, and ninja in FFXIV.

You can drop items anywhere in trove.  And others can pick them up.  But they go away after a while.  The chest keeps them till someone picks it up.  I have some extra mounts I think about dropping in there.  Like a cookie elephant or two.  It’s were the pets go that I already have.  As for items, each zone has their own unique look of items and it kinda expands as you level.  The max level for a class is 10, but you have mastery levels you slowly gain that give you perks which is more like account bonuses for all characters.  I’m not fond of any of the ranged classes in Trove.
