Overwatch shows off Zarya and Bastion gameplay in new videos

She's a knockout.

The early Overwatch gameplay videos continue moving through the cast with a robot that has the heart of a human and a woman with the heart of… well, still a human. But a very athletic human. It’s Bastion and Zarya’s turns in the hot seat, which should satisfy fans of heavy gravitational artillery and transforming robots alike.

Bastion shows off his ability to swap between modes to provide stationary defense or mobile harassment, while Zarya shows off her explosive shells and her party support. Check out both videos just below, and see whether either of these warriors looks like the sort of character you’d like to bring marching into combat.

why should a robot limit itself to puny human thinking?

Lagowatu I’m thinking its because Bastion still doesn’t have a firm grasp of self outside of self awareness. Also, if I remember correctly, Zenyatta did live in a community of other robots, where as Bastion simply lived in a forest with just wildlife, so that may have something to do with it.
….its pretty interesting when you think about it.

Lagowatu Now we just need furries and a transable person, preferably someone that sawed off their own leg because they have the soul of someone missing a leg. They should also have an option to make the gun sounds make Pew pew Pew noises made with the mouth, because if they don’t pulling the trigger might be triggering.

Very minor nitpick, but Bastion has so far been non-gendered.  The page up at http://us.battle.net/overwatch/en/heroes/bastion/ is careful to use ‘it’ and avoid the use of gendered pronouns.  I’d like to think Blizzard is opening things up for diversity by having a main character that is non-gender-binary, but more likely Bastion is an ‘it’ because it’s just too ‘other’.  (It can’t be solely because Bastion is a robot – Zenyatta is also a robot and definitely gendered male.)

I wish they’d just put this out already. I’ve been playing CSGO for my FPS needs and it’s just not cutting it.

Dope_Danny Still better than a cinematic trailer that has nothing to do with the gameplay. Its very likely these matches are staged, but we are not gonna see a real match until real players start playing them, and that’s not happening until the game is out.

Would you prefer realistic graphics, textures, and body proportions, like Call of Duty?

Sigbjorn the art style is certainly white bread bland. Theres no cohesion or direction, like a childs upturned toybox of action figures from many different franchises all thrown in a pile together. Clearly they are going for the moba style roster over the traditional team cohesion of team shooters, lets be honest probably for the cash shop cosmetic money.

Dope_Danny In mind…I hope…is that they play just a ton of games of Overwatch with good players and record them all during testing. When someone does awesome, they make these videos. Yeah probably naive.

Sigbjorn I figured it was just because I was old and it looks exactly like every other shooter out there to me…but I’m sure it will be popular even if I don’t play it :)
