The Daily Grind: Do you recommend Destiny?

67

I’ve been eyeballing Destiny lately, even before that shiny PS4 announcement and even though I was underwhelmed when I played the game on one of those beta weekends last year. I may pick it up with the new PlayStation bundle at some point, but I dunno. I’d also kinda like to get that Forza Xbox One bundle and I really shouldn’t do both.

What say you, MOP readers? Have you played Destiny? Did you recommend it? Why or why not?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

BTW, we were wrong about rewards for veterans.
There are several coming down the road and a few announced.
If you have one level 30 or both expansions, goodies will be coming. Speeders, sharers, etc.
The achievement wheel is something else entirely.

I’ve played it during beta and I’ve had it for a month. There isn’t much variety to it, they are missing out on many fundamental mmo things, mainly, a good inventory system. It is pretty mediocre. It is fun with friends though. Can’t recommend it.

I don’t play first person shooters, I am absolutely terrible at them.  So I can’t recommend this game.  If it had a third person view option (as I believe all FPS games should) I might play it.

I smell disgust that this atrocious “game” is even mentioned on an mmo site.

Nah, too pvp focused and not on the pc. And it makes Doom look like it has a deep and meaningful plot.

I tried it drunk in middle of the night at someone else’s place. It was okay. I shot things.

Nope. Too PVE focused and no open world PVP.

Simply put, the game was pretty fun until you hit endgame and there’s nothing to do. Playing the story through for the first time was a pretty fun and unique experience that I thoroughly enjoyed, but once you finish the default campaign there isn’t much to do aside from grinding for miniscule stat gains like an MMO or good ol’ Halo style PvP.

Notice how each time I mention this the staff ignores it like a homeless guy in the street; seriously they’re getting paid for adspace by a company that has ripped off WoW and SW the Force Unleashed in their promotional materials.
